Shane and I flew to Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea. We only visited for two full days, so did not see much, but we did visit some interesting shops.
In one of the shops I saw the Papua New Guinea flag, it is very colourful! One part is black with the Southern Cross, it is a group of stars seen at night, but only in the southern hemisphere or near the equator. The other part of the flag is red with a bright yellow bird called the Bird of Paradise. I would like to see that bird one day!
There were also lots of beautiful masks made from wood. I was told that they are used for ceremonies in the villages, but I would have to hop a long way to see those villages.
I might return to Papua New Guinea one day and visit the tribes in the hills and mountains – it would be a very interesting experience!
