Arnold's Restaurant

Guess what I'm having for dinner!

On our recent trip to Cape Cod, we made sure we ate one of our meals at Arnold’s Lobster & Clam Bar. It’s a well known seafood restaurant located close to the Rail Trail bike path and National Seashore park in Eastham , Massachesetts.

The inspiration for the restaurant was Arnold’s malt shop from the Happy Days show which was popular over 30 years ago. Arnold’s was originally a drive-in clam shack with a Cape Cod theme. There were roller skating car-hops and it had a malt shop menu with a 1950’s theme. Over time it became well known for the quality seafood served there at reasonable prices.

The original restaurant was started in 1976 by Nathan “Nick” Nickerson. He is a native Cape Codder who was going for a restaurant with high quality seafood, large portions, friendly service, cleanliness and affordable prices. In 1993 there was a fire and when it was rebuilt, it was changed from the drive-in to the restaurant it is today. At that time it was enlarged and a gourmet ice cream stand as well as miniature golf was added.

We decided it was well worth the visit to try some delicious seafood. Oh, by the way, we had the fresh lobster of course!

  1. Are lobsters a part of a frog’s natural diet, or is Polly #3 a gourmet? She probably won’t meet her frog prince any time soon. It seems like she must be a really expensive date. Just kidding. This is funny and original. Keep up the good work!

  2. Yum, lobster! Great post!

  3. Looks good!

  4. We were so happy to meet Polly at the Highland Lighthouse in Truro on Cape Cod … and what great traveling companions Polly has. They pointed out a whale far out in the Atlantic. Polly liked that too. Happy Trails to you all from the Cape Codders and the Spanish Senorita. P.S. We like lobsters too!

  5. Pam,

It was great meeting all of you too. As we were driving away we said that we should have asked the three of you to join us for dinner. It was a lot of fun talking to you.

  6. Hi Pam~
I’m so glad we had the opportunity to meet you this summer! Unfortunately we haven’t put the lighthouse post up yet! We’ve been busy…as soon as we got back from the Cape, we headed back to work. Please tell Gabrielle (I hope that’s right) that we said hello and let her know we would love to hear from her too! 🙂
