Run-way cool!

This weekend I got to attend the Thunder Over the Blue Ridge Open House and Air Show in Martinsburg, West Virginia. The center plane is a Hornet. The plane on the right is a Jump Plane for the Army Golden Knight Parachute Team.

HU-60 Medic Helicopter

Looking at this helicopter was really cool!  It transports six people and patients.  It was the workhorse for the Vietnam War.

This was one of four engines for the enormous C-5 Galaxy Cargo Transport. It is so large…it has 28 wheels and can carry 4 tractor trailers.  WOW!

C-130 Hercules

This a smaller cargo plane than the C-5 cargo plane.  It is able to land and take off on smaller runways.

This was one of six F-16 Fighting Falcons that make up the famous Air Force Thunderbirds.  It was preparing to take off!

Check out their close proximity, but cover your ears for their thunder!

  1. I love the picture of the C-5 engine with Polly and your son(?). I bet it was hard getting good pictures of the aircraft in the sky! You did a great job with the ground shots. Have you ever been to the Martinsburg Airshow, and if so, how did this one compare with past years?

  2. I enjoy anything airplane related and I know I would have enjoyed seeing this. I’ll have to keep my eyes open for something like this in the area where I live.

  3. I was working all day, but I heard the planes flying over Martinsburg. Now I know what I missed. Thanks for the awesome post!

  4. In response to the past years airshow-There was no airshow last year;however the one two years ago was not run by the AirForce. It was much smaller, but still enjoyable according to my family.

  5. Great post, too bad Polly wasn’t offered a ride with the “Thunderbirds”, or was she?
