Have you ever heard of Alex Debogorski? If you’re a fan of Ice Road Truckers, then you definitely know who I’m talking about. This past weekend, Debbie, Candee, and I jumped into the car and drove to the Chester County Book & Music Company in West Chester, Pennsylvania for the chance to see Alex at one of the stops on his two-month book signing tour. We expected to stand in line, exchange a few pleasantries with him, have our book signed and then be on our way–Wrong!
As we pulled into the parking lot, we couldn’t help but notice a huge red truck parked in the parking lot. When I say huge, I’m not kidding–it was 42 feet long! Adorned with the slogan, “King of the Road” and sporting a bigger than life image of our favorite Ice Road Trucker, we immediately knew that our GPS had directed us to the right place! As we parked I noticed Alex standing by the side of his truck, and I literally hopped out of the car with excitement! What can I say? It’s always fun to meet someone that you’ve watched on T.V.! Candee fumbled with her purse, which slowed me down, but we finally made our way over to the truck and introduced ourselves to the now famous trucker.
He took one look at me and laughed boisterously. That laugh of his–just like you hear on the show–makes everyone else want to laugh too! I asked him to pose for a picture with me, and he immediately hoisted me onto his shoulder, as Debbie began to click away. (He laughed and clowned around the whole time!) We enjoyed talking to him for a few minutes, but the best was yet to come…
He allowed me to hop into the cab of his truck and I got to check it out! It was really cool, but that’s still not the best part…
Ready for the best part? Okay, okay! I’ll spill the beans…Alex came into the restaurant and had breakfast with us. We ate, laughed, and chatted for over an hour. Good-natured and gregarious, Alex proved to be an excellent meal-time companion! We want to send out a big thank you to the manager of the bookstore for our ‘on the house’ meal. You caught us by surprise and we really appreciate your hospitality!
Bonhomous and fun-loving, Alex Debogorski, showed us first-hand how important his fans are and I’m glad I had the opportunity to meet him. I was a very ‘hoppy’ frog, indeed!

I’ll have to check out his book. I bet he has some great tales to tell. I get nervous on the icy roads in West Virginia. He’s a brave guy!

Is that Alex’s truck? You’re lucky that you got to see the cab! Were you able to see inside the truck as well? Did he tell you about some of the scary times on Ice Road Truckers? I would have really liked to have had the chance to talk to him. I guess I will have to buy the book!

I remember watching IRT a while back, and Alex was really ill. I’m glad to see he’s doing okay. I can’t wait to read his book!

I love this show, and I’ve watched it since it first started. I’d love to meet Alex if he ends up doing a book signing near my home.

I too met Alex in Cleveland, Ohio. Alex joined me and a friend for coffee and we talked for over an hour. Alex is very well informed on almost all subjects. Pick one and he will have something to share or offer an opinion. He autographed my book and I just completed reading it. It is everything I thought it would be. Alex has led a very interesting life. I can’t wait for the next season of Ice Road Truckers, which I hear will be in Siberia.

Gunnysan,
We too had a great time talking to Alex. He really did know a lot about many different subjects, and the time just flew by. I can’t wait for the next season of Ice Road Truckers, also. It seems like every season is more and more interesting.
