Don Knott's Star

I hope I become famous enough to have my own star someday!

Don Knotts is best known for his role as Barney Fife on the Andy Griffith Show, but he was also in other shows over the years such as Three’s Company. He was honored with his first star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame, but the above star is a tribute to him in his hometown of Morgantown, West Virginia.

Unfortunately, Knotts’ was in poor health at the time the star was to be installed along with a celebration that was planned in his honor. He died in February 2006, and the star, which is located in front of the Metropolitan Theater on High Street in Morgantown, was placed without a big ceremony in December 2006.

There are possible plans to also honor Knotts with a statue which was designed by the same person that designed the West Virginia state quarter. It is reported to show Knotts as a middle aged man seated and reading a script. In addition to this, there may also be a small park created in Morgantown parallel to Don Knotts Boulevard along the Monongahela River.

Polly #2 and the Don Knott’s Star

  1. Morgantown was home to Jerry West for a while too, so we have Barney Fife on TV Land every night for an hour and West as the model for the NBA’s logo. Does it get any better than that?

  2. I loved Don Knotts on the Andy Griffith show! Great post–great memories!
