Orlando
I got to spend a week in Florida this past summer with Debbie and her husband. We spent several days in Orlando and several days in the Florida Keys which I’ll tell you about later.
Since we didn’t have a lot of time, we didn’t go into any of the theme parks this year but just had a relaxing time driving around and sightseeing. We rented a convertible so I loved riding around in it with the top down!
I wasn’t really driving…I don’t have a license!
Following are some of the things we did:
We toured the Titanic exhibit which was very interesting. There are full-scale recreations of some of the Titanic’s most famous rooms which include the Grand Staircase, First Class Parlor Suite, Boilers and Promenade Deck. You can gaze out at stars while feeling the cold air off the Atlantic Ocean.
To make it more authentic, there are actors dressed up in periodic costumes to portray some of the more famous people that were on the ship, such as Molly Brown and Captain Smith. You are given an hour long guided tour and ends in a room which has an 8 foot replica of the Titanic as she appears on the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. There are also many artifacts from the ship as well as movie memorabilia from the James Cameron film, “Titanic”.
I’ve always wanted to try my hand at boating. What a better ship to be navigating than the Titanic!
I can just imagine all the beautiful clothing the people wore as they went up and down the Grand Staircase of the Titanic.
The House of Blues Restaurant was one of the places we ate ate in Orlando.
Then we ran into the “Blues Brothers” on one of our drives!
I wish Emeril would have been at his restaurant the day we ate there. I’m sure he would have been happy to see me again!
