I hopped at the chance to attend a Jimmy Buffett concert recently at Jiffy Lube Live in Bristow, Virginia. I attended one a year ago with Debbie and her husband Jeff, so when I found out they were going again, I definitely wanted to go along!

How do you like the costume I wore to the Jimmy Buffett concert?

Jimmy Buffett is best known for his singing and songwriting, which mainly portrays an “island escapism” lifestyle. In addition to that, he’s also an author, business man and movie producer. His band is called the Coral Reefer Band and he has a huge following of fans who call themselves “Parrotheads”.

This is Debbie and me at last year's concert. We were standing by a car that was decorated by the owners who were definitely in the spirit of the day!

As part of his business ventures, he owns two restaurant chains. One of which is “Cheeseburger in Paradise”, and the other is “Margaritaville”. In addition to that, he also just opened up a Margaritaville Hotel in Florida, and has some Margaritaville brand food and beverages available for purchase in stores.

As an author, he has had three #1 best sellers and is one of eight authors on the New York Times Best Seller fiction list to have reached #1 on both the fiction and non-fiction lists. The other seven authors who have accomplished this are Ernest Hemingway, John Steinbeck, William Styron, Irving Wallace, Dr. Seuss, Mitch Albom and Glenn Beck.

Jimmy Buffett began his musical career in the late 60’s as a country singer in Nashville, Tennessee. He started with his current type of music in 1970 when he was living in Key West, Florida. His current style of music is a combination of country, folk and pop music with tropical and coastal themes. He also has a established his trademark easy-going beach bum persona for which is widely known. He has earned many awards over the years for his music. Of the more than 30 albums he has released, he has had 8 Gold Albums and 9 Platinum or Multi-Platinum Albums.

Buffett continues to tour throughout the year but has really cut back on the amount of dates he performs. It’s usually very difficult to purchase tickets for his concerts because they sell out within minutes of becoming available.

Buffett is involved with several charities including Save the Manatee Club, and the “Singing for Change” foundation which provides grants to local charities dealing with children and family causes, environmental causes and more. He has also raised money in times of natural disaster such as hurricanes as part of the relief effort. One of his most recent efforts was a free beach concert in July, 2010 which was an effort to bring people back to the Gulf Coast beaches after the BP oil disaster.

People show up early in the day to tailgate before the concerts!

Some of the sponsors had tents set up and were giving out free samples before you went in through the gates.

My friend the Geico Gecko was wandering around so I had to have my picture taken with him!

I really have a good time at the concerts and hope you enjoy it as well if you ever get a chance to see Jimmy in concert. Are there any other Parrotheads out there besides me? I’d love to hear from you if you’ve ever been to a Jimmy Buffett concert!
