Travel Spain…It’s hard to describe Spain in simple terms. The culture,people,foods,festivals, and beautiful scenery all vie for attention in this wonderful vacation getaway.

Spain, along with Portugal, is on the Iberian Peninsula and is located in southwest Europe. Spain makes up about 85% of the peninsula. The capital of the country is Madrid.

Spain is the second largest country in Western Europe and the European Union after France. The mainland of the country is bordered by the Mediterranean Sea to the south and east. On the north it’s bordered by France, Andorra and the Bay of Biscay. It’s bordered by the Atlantic Ocean and Portugal to the west and northwest.

Spain also has some territories which include the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean, the Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean off the African coast, and two autonomous cities in North Africa, Ceuta and Melilla and they border Morocco.

Currently it is a member of the United Nations, the European Union, NATO, WTO and OECD. Spain is a democracy which is organized in the form of a parliamentary government under a constitutional monarchy.

King Juan Carlo I

The current ruler is King Juan Carlos I who has been in power since 1975. The heir apparent is Prince Felipe and is the son of the monarch.

Euros

Because Spain is part of the European Union, the type of currency used is the Euro.

Now that I’ve told you a little about the country of Spain, check out my trip to Madrid. While Debbie, Candee and I were out walking around Madrid, we saw many of the plazas, the Royal Palace Madrid, and the Crystal Palace inside Retiro Park as well as many other wonderful and beautiful sites.
