This was the group of friends that rode together on our wagon. Can you see me peeking out of Debbie's pocket?
Polly #2 was very excited when she found out that she’s be going on a jaunting car ride in Killarney. Jaunting cars are horse drawn carts that are open to the elements (unless there’s really bad weather), and are operated by local people called jarvies. The jarvies are knowledgeable about local folklore and other information, and like to tell jokes and have a good time with their guests.
There are many places around town where you can hire a jarvey for a jaunting car ride, and it’s really something you should do if you’re ever in the area. The jaunting cars have several routes they will follow and each one is filled with beautiful scenery. Some of the more popular routes are Ross Castle and Killarney Estate, Muckross House and Gardens, and the Gap of Dunloe. You can either let the jarvey know where you’re interested in going, or ask for suggestions if you’re not sure.

You can see the hotel we were staying at in the background. The jaunting car we rode in was conveniently located in front of the hotel.

This is Billy, our jarvey. He was full of jokes and fun, and Debbie was excited, because she remembered him as the jarvey she had the very first time she rode in a jaunting car, several years ago!

It was a lot of fun, and the scenery is just beautiful. The jarvy we had kept us in stitches with all of the jokes he made during the ride. I would highly recommend taking a ride if you’re ever there!

I did not know that they still had those old cars.

They sure do, and it’s a really nice and relaxing way to tour the area.
