This little frog would just like to say that I had no idea how much there was to learn in kindergarten! Now we are learning about money and you really have to use good “cents” to understand all the coins we’ve been talking about.
I was happy to meet Peggy the Piggy bank! Actually, all of the students have little piggy banks. They are earning pennies by doing good work, being good listeners, and participating in group discussions. Mrs. Shickle also said they could go to the “classroom bank” and trade their pennies for nickels, dimes, even quarters!
Then comes the “toad-ally” awesome news…Mrs. Shickle is going to have a store where the students can buy really neat stuff! Oh no, I just remembered I DIDN’T get a piggy bank! Mrs. Shickle do you think I could earn some money too?

Polly, I’m so sorry that I forgot to give you a bank. I have trouble remembering that there is a little amphibian in our class that likes to do everything my “almost first graders” do. I will get you a bank on Monday, and you can bank on that!
Boys and girls, I’m so proud of how well you counted your money when we banked on Friday. Not only could you count your pennies but you could tell me how many more you needed to make a nickle!
money
If you leave a comment and tell me the sum of these coins, I will give you a penny for your bank! Also, anyone who finds out what amphibian means and comments gets a NICKEL!

Mrs. Shickle,
There is 7 cents in your picture. Amphibian is an animal capable of living both on land and in water.

Dear Polly and Mrs Shickle,
That money is worth 7 cents.
Amphibians are frogs, toads, salamanders, or newts. They are animals. Amphibians have wet skin. They swim in the water.

IT IS 7 CENTS POLLY EARNED.
You’re Right!
Yea, Christopher that’s right, and guess what! Mrs. Shickle gave me a piggy bank today and said if I answer my posts I will get a penny for each one! Ya hoo! You get a penny too.

Mrs. Shickle and students,
There are 7 cents displayed! I shared the picture of coins with the teachers here at the math conference and they all said 7 cents too. I am learning lots of new things to bring back to Berkeley Heights. I am excited to be sharing some of your money activities to the teachers who are attending the math conference. We’re trying to make “cents of number sense.”
See you soon!
